Cool on and off the ice
In 2009, I reached out to a few members of the Utah Valley University Hockey Team and asked if they would be willing to model some cold weather items for a shoot I was putting together, for the now defunct blog 21st & Ivy. I expected some reluctance but was pleasantly surprised when they agreed to do it.
We shot these on the front porch of a friend’s house on a sunny December morning. The guys arrived together with their hockey bags (unzipped, a smell I will never forget) and I styled them using pieces I borrowed from Gap. Of course, they razzed each other but they got into it and were a lot of fun to work with.
Looking back on these, there are of course things I would do differently but all in all, I’m still pleased with how they turned out.
After the shoot, a few of the guys mentioned that they were planning on playing for a city league team that evening. "We're gonna go play on a team that hasn't won a lot of games and help raise their stats," they said. I remember thinking that was pretty cool of them.
