During the summer of 2012, I had taken on the personal project of photographing a series of college athletes and their bodies. I used the project as an opportunity to try out new lighting techniques as well as add to my body of work – for lack of a better way of putting it.
I was a bit apprehensive about working with the athletes (not to mention, having to ask them to be photographed without much on) but I soon found out that they made incredible test subjects – they were willing, able, uninhibited, and great collaborators when it came to incorporating the way they move in their respected sport. The project took a lot of effort but was such a great experience that I knew I had to revisit the subject again. So, in 2014, I did. But this time I decided to photograph them how I’m most comfortable — using only natural light and in black and white — and, in some cases, with a little more clothing.
These are the results.
