A Simple White Shirt - Revisited

Ten Years Ago

It’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years since I put a call out on Facebook for some willing subjects to step in front of my lens. All I asked was that they wear a white shirt.

A Saturday in the studio

This may have been the biggest personal project that I took on, at the time. I had blocked out a Saturday and scheduled a majority of the subjects one right after the other — spending 15 minutes or less with each individual. It was a great exercise in getting a stranger relaxed in front of the camera in a small amount of time.

The Square Magazine office acted as the impromptu studio space — a space no larger than a small living room. Black fabric and a single strobe completed the rest of the set-up.

Photographed October 2008
